Town garden design

Location: Tunbridge wells, Kent, UK

This small garden, to be built on a tight budget, needed to provide a safe place to play for toddlers, a dining area, seating, storage and a good view from the upper floors of this terraced town house.

An Indian sandstone from a certified source was laid to provide an area for wheeled toys, whilst a sandpit was incorporated within the decking, with a lid to prevent access to neighbouring cats.

A swing frame was built with a view to it becoming a support for climbing plants as the children get older. A shed was constructed to fit a dark corner, and timber benches were set within recesses formed by the raised beds.

Theses beds were planted with Rosa 'The Generous Gardener', Rosa 'Felicite Perpetue', Clematis "Frances Rivis', Geranium 'Johnson's Blue' and Geranium 'Rozanne', Allium 'Purple Sensation' and a variety of different lavenders.
