Children’s Hospice garden

About Project

This garden was designed for a permanent location at Demelza children’s hospice in Kent. Three large native multi-stemmed Betula pendula protect a seating area surrounded by oranges, purples and lime greens.

Tethered chimes and a water harp provided the elements of sound to provide entertainment as well as a place to sit for the children and their families.

The garden is comforting in its familiarity and contrasts with the cool blues and greens of the under-planting which gradually become interspersed and then overwhelmed by bright oranges, yellows and acid greens: the inspiration for this explosion of colour comes from the preferences of the children of Demelza House itself, drawn to the hopeful and cheerful colours.
