Kent Roof Terrace

About Project

This roof terrace is situated on the roof of a historic building in the southeast of England, with fabulous views over the surrounding land.

The clients wanted to be able to enjoy the view, but alongside this they but also required privacy. Jo’s inspiration were the fabulous 360° views, and so designed a space which linked with the countryside beyond.

At the client’s request, a composite decking was used for ease of maintenance; a limestone detail runs across this flooring at random intervals to hold the eye and to create a sense of width. Jo designed a sweeping staircase to link the two levels. A pergola was also designed, with a simple canopy which can easily be removed in winter.

Bespoke fibreglass containers hold a mix of planting which includes acid-loving plants such as azaleas and rhododendrons, echoing the planting of the garden below.
