Consultation or concept?

You have the freedom to choose whether a consultation, full design project or a simple concept is the best way to move ahead with your project.

Jo Thompson: my approach to your garden

It can be difficult to visualise how your garden could look and to work out where to put features and plants for best effect. I’m here to help you do just that. I’ll listen to your requirements and ideas, and turn them into reality. This could be a full-blown design project including a presentation plan, construction drawings and planting plan, a concept outline, or it could be a simple consultation about a livening-up and re-plant.

Help. I need somebody. Not just anybody.

In some cases, you might not need an overall landscape project, but only a quick consultation. At the time of your initial consultation, I’m happy to write up a consultation ideas list for you. It usually takes about a week or so to put it together, then I send it by mail and email.

You may be a homeowner that wants to landscape their own garden, but needs a little guidance. Maybe you only need to know what kind of plants are on your property. What kind of shrub is that? How do I prune that big ugly thing? What should I put over there to screen the neighbour’s bathroom? For a moderate charge, I can come and spend an hour with you at your home. Your consultation will include a follow-up summary in writing.

I need to see a plan

I can provide you with a detailed drawing of your garden, with all proposed features.

I need everything

A design project is a more detailed process with the design fee based upon the overall complexity of the design. I’ll provide visuals, layouts, construction details and planting plans.

The design for your garden is now completed, and it is time to start the garden landscaping process itself and make the garden design a reality. Of course I’ll recommend preferred contractors to carry out the garden landscaping work required, though you may wish to appoint your own or even build the garden yourself at your own pace. Whichever choice you make there are a number of additional services that you may require:

Landscaping Details

Certain bespoke details on the garden design, such as water features or pergolas, will need to be drawn up separately and accurately to a larger scale in order that these particular garden features are built exactly as you and I would like.

Landscape Specification Documents

A detailed Landscape Specification Document lists every detail of the garden landscaping requirements, such as full specification of hard landscaping materials, construction methods and details. It allows different contractors to quote exactly for the job in the knowledge that they are working to the same specification.

Project Management

However you decide to carry out the garden landscaping, I can if required supervise and oversee the entire process. This allows you to sit back and relax, confident in the knowledge that any queries on the garden design or implementation will be quickly resolved and that all of your expectations will be met.

Let there be light

Should you require garden lighting and irrigation , I work with qualified contractors who can advise on and carry out the work.

Maintenance

As your garden grows and develops, I can provide a garden maintenance schedule and seasonal advice. If you would like a more regular gardener I can supply or recommend the right person for the job. I promise not to leave you to your own devices: I can take you right through your project from start to finish, ensuring your total satisfaction with the completed project: your dream space.
