Sophie graduated in Architecture at Newcastle University where she spent her final year developing her interest in nature through studying ecological designs and water movement in Venice. She then worked with The Garden Museum to help revive Benton End House and Garden as a horticultural centre. Sophie has volunteered at public gardens and worked on a private estate, where, along with many planting and woodland projects, she designed new gates for a Capability Brown walled garden. She is passionate about communicating future garden designs through visual representations.
At weekends, Sophie visits gardens (something of a theme amongst the JTLGD team) and is a keen landscape photographer, as well as loving to sketch outdoors. She is building a particularly impressive and rather enviable collection of guide maps from gardens she has visited, and must be commended as the instigator of the weekly in-house Bark, Bud and Leaf tree and plant ID quiz, a very competitive activity amongst ALL members of the team!
