So here I am, back to plans after a weekend in Cornwall saying a sad goodbye to an old friend whose 86 years never stopped her from enjoying life. By coincidence, within a couple of hundred metres from my lodgings, Darren Hawkes is busily preparing his RHS Chelsea show garden, so I took the opportunity to go and say hello, and to admire the seemingly-acres of intricately  and beautifully arranged slate. It’s really lovely to catch up with fellow designers before the show – Chelsea I think is unique in the sense that as a designer you are only really competing against yourself, not with others, so amongst most designers there is a fabulous sense of teamwork and camaraderie rather than one-upmanship, and we really try our very hardest to recognise and acknowledge all those people who help us along the way.
