Lucy has always had a passion for horticulture but she started out as a History of Art student, working on exhibitions and museum collections around London before moving to Vancouver to work in architecture and interior design. However, the love for gardens won out in the end and Lucy gained a scholarship to the London College of Garden Design where she graduated with Distinction. Lucy has since worked with notable designers on UK and international projects before joining the team in 2017. Lucy is heavily involved in all stages of the garden design process from initial master planning to project implementation, working closely with contractors and specialists on a range of private and public projects and show gardens.
Lucy is a recent convert to triathlon competitions and the joys of a good wet suit. She makes up for all that exercise with a love of food. She also loves travel – her favourite destination being Vancouver (which she liked so much she stayed for 5 years)! Something about those mountains…
Nina is an experienced garden designer and plantswoman with qualifications in horticulture, plantsmanship and garden design. She also brings skills from a previous career as a director of communications to her position as consultant at JTGLD. Nina undertakes various roles, from overseeing the planting of client’s gardens to advising on horticultural matters. She has been planting award-winning show gardens since 2007 and has headed up Jo’s Chelsea planting team since 2012.
Nina is a self-confessed ‘plantaholic’ and lectures at the London College of Garden Design. She sings in several bands, is a Tintinophile and likes to think she is a cat-whisperer.
With qualifications in garden design, brickwork and electrics plus over 35 years’ experience, Steve has an answer to every conceivable question you could throw at him, making him an invaluable member of the team. JTGLD are not the only ones to appreciate his talents; Steve has been a RHS Show Garden Judge; Judge and Mentor for World Skills Hard Landscaping; Judge and Assessor for Association of Professional Landscapers Awards and a BBC Gardener’s World Live Show Judge.
In his spare time, Steve tends to his own garden and allotment. Like many other members of the team, he is a keen traveller and his favourite destinations include Canada for the skiing, Japan for the culture and Yorkshire for fly fishing (you just cannot get this guy to stay indoors)!
Joanna graduated from London College of Garden Design in 2016 and previously completed RHS qualifications in Horticulture at Capel Manor College in London (Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture and Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Plant Growth, Propagation and Development). Joanna went on to work with other acclaimed London garden designers until she joined Jo Thompson Landscape and Garden Design, where she is involved in every stage of the landscape design process, from concept to coordination.
Joanna has travelled extensively and loves exploring landscapes across the world. She most enjoys returning to her home country of Poland, where her passion for gardens began and to Italy, for the Mediterranean sea. She also loves rock and roll music!
Jessica graduated as an architect from the University of Florence and came straight to London to work freelance for other esteemed garden design studios in the city before joining Jo Thompson Garden and Landscape Design to work on large scale projects such as the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Jessica loves climbing and setting out on long walks, especially in the city of Florence where she studied for seven years; the architecture and history of which has been a great inspiration to her. Jessica is also a big fan of the podcast ‘How I Built This’, which narrates the stories of successful entrepreneurs and their projects.
Naomi graduated from London College of Garden Design in 2018,
having previously completed qualifications in Horticulture at Capel Manor College in London. Naomi is a self-proclaimed garden obsessive – whilst training she even lived in a caravan on a garden she was studying! That’s commitment.
When it comes to design approach, Naomi takes inspiration from the natural landscape as well as philosophy, architecture and art. She is planning several international trips including Picos de Europea to see the Spring wildflowers and Japan to learn more about garden design theory Miegakure.
Like many of the team, Naomi spends most of her free time in the garden! That’s where you’ll find her year round, living on hot chocolate in the winter. She’s even been known to garden in the dark!

He brings an abundance of enthusiasm to the office and encourages colleagues to adopt his own laid-back approach to life.
His hobbies include digging up freshly planted bulbs, being surprised by rabbits and eating any lunches left sitting in a bag in the office.
