Aquatic plants do not behave as ‘normal’ plants. Some need to be somewhere a bit swampy, some need a couple of centimeters of water; some need three times that. So another list to make, to ensure we have enough of everything. I don’t expect to see anything very green at this stage, so it was interesting and surprising to see on Monday the amount of growth, and which plants are definites for the show. We just need to get the exact quantities now, as storage space is limited at Chelsea so it’s actually counter-productive to order too many plants: they just get in the way. We treat this as we would any planting scheme: we wouldn’t dream of supplying a client with twice the amount of plants than were actually necessary. So minute detail is needed, which means we’re now sitting here surrounded by spreadsheets and graphs.
