RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2020

Zoe Ball discusses the garden's design with Jo

We are delighted to announce our 11th RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden!

With loneliness being a key issue in the UK today, the RHS and the NHS will be joining forces through the RHS Garden for Friendship.

A recent survey of 2,000 people showed that more than half of adults ‘enjoy’ being surrounded by greenery and a further 53 per cent said it boosts their mood. Our garden, designed in collaboration with TV and BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball, will encourage people to get together and green up their streets to create a more colourful, friendly and happy place to live.

It will reflect an urban street, brimming with accessible ideas to green up our front gardens, balconies and community spaces, like window boxes with plants that can be grown from seed. There are so many benefits to gardening, but just the mere fact that greening the front of your property and streets gets you outside means there is more chance of seeing people and starting up conversations with your neighbours to help build a friendly community.

As well as roses, poppies, an abundance of edible herbs and delicious vegetables, there will be trees in the form of multi-stemmed Gleditsia triacanthos f. inermis ‘Sunburst’
(honey locust) and the Tilia × euchlora (lime) growing in the garden.
