Sevenoaks School, Kent
Historic school gardens restoration
In 2016 the Head of Sevenoaks School contacted Jo to discuss the gardens at the school. On meeting, they realised they had much in common, including a vision for school landscapes which went far beyond the usual mown grass and low-maintenance flowerbeds. Among the buildings and fields on the 100-acre campus are ten beautiful gardens, looked after by a dedicated Grounds and Gardens team who plant new trees every year and maintain a range of stunning shrubs, lawns, herbaceous borders, flower beds and ponds. The trees, plants and green spaces at Sevenoaks contribute to biodiversity and enrich the lives of all students and staff.
As well as this, Jo Thompson Landscape & Garden Design were then commissioned to create a wildlife pond as an educational resource for the school’s new Science and Technology Centre and Global Study Centre designed by Tim Ronalds Architects, winning RIBA South East Award 2019, RIBA South East Client of the Year Award 2019 and RIBA National Award 2019.
