Today the cottage garden is having a major revival, reinvented for the 21st century to chime with our current penchant for naturalistic planting. The modern cottage garden comes in many forms: it might be a gravel garden where poppies and other colourful favourites are allowed to self seed, or a front-garden potager, with herbs, vegetables and fruit growing alongside flowers for cutting.
